Commute.org’s Limited English Proficiency Summary
The Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance (Commute.org) is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of its services on the basis of race, color, or national origin, as provided by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended. Limited English Proficiency (LEP) is a term used to describe people who do not speak English as their primary language and who also may have limited ability to read, write, or understand English. San Mateo County is home to many individuals who are not proficient in the English language. Commute.org is committed to affording individuals affected by a Commute.org activity with meaningful access to programs and services by:
- Advertising meetings, hearings, conferences, etc, in appropriate languages
- Requesting the participants to inform us of needed accommodations in order to meet reasonable needs
- Having written materials printed in languages that meet LEP requirements
- Providing FREE of charge interpreters to verbally translate and when necessary perform sign language translation
Commute.org is also committed to assuring that resources are used to reduce the barriers that limit access to its information and services by LEP persons. Commute.org is committed to providing language services including: telephone translation service, website translation software, and bilingual customer service staff.
Website Translation
Pages on this site are being translated by software from Google Translation rather than by human translators. Commute.org is using this "machine translation" because it is the most affordable and practical way to offer translated pages in multiple languages of all the site's pages. Machine translation also eliminates delays in having text manually translated. With machine translation, new or revised text is translated immediately on request. This instant translation is critical for communicating service disruptions, detours, severe weather advisories, and other quickly changing information.
The languages supported now are French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. More languages may be added later, depending on availability from the vendor and customer demand.
Accessibility for Individuals with Disabilities at Public Meetings
Upon request, Commute.org will provide for written agenda materials in appropriate alternative formats, or disability-related modification or accommodation, including auxiliary aids or services, to enable individuals with disabilities to participate in public meetings. Please send a written request, including your name, mailing address, phone number and brief description of the requested materials and a preferred alternative format or auxiliary aid or service at least two days before the meeting. Requests should be mailed to the agency Secretary at Commute.org, 400 Oyster Point Blvd., Suite 409, South San Francisco, CA 94080; or via email; or by phone at 650-588-8170.
Availability of Public Records
All public records relating to open session items on a public meeting agenda, which are not exempt from disclosure pursuant to the California Public Records Act, that are distributed to a majority of the legislative body will be available for public inspection at 400 Oyster Point Blvd., Suite 409, South San Francisco, CA 94080, at the same time that the public records are distributed or made available to the legislative body.
