Commute.org Awards Microgrants for Outreach to Local Community Groups

Commute.org has awarded five grants via the Community Partner Program to community groups in San Mateo County to increase outreach and awareness about Commute.org’s programs and services, particularly to communities currently underrepresented in the agency’s programs. The goal is to make new audiences aware of the transportation benefits and services available to people who live and work in San Mateo County, to create deeper partnerships, and to better understand the transportation needs of the communities the groups serve.
The grants will help to support organizations in sharing messages about Commute.org’s free programs, services, and rewards through their regular communications activities. The organizations have committed to a range of activities, including educational workshops, digital newsletters, one-on-one consultations, and community events and activities. Commute.org will provide custom and translated flyers and other resources, as well as in-person presentations.

El Concilio of San Mateo County
El Concilio of San Mateo County (ECSMC) is a non-profit, community-based organization founded in 1980 as a coalition to address the lack of culturally and linguistically competent services for Spanish-speakers in the county. Today their mission is to increase education, employment, and access to quality of life services for underserved communities in San Mateo County. As an equity-centered and community-led organization, they are committed to addressing the well-documented disparities that impact low-income, non/limited English speaking, immigrant, Latino, and other underserved communities. They empower individuals and communities to build their capacities and connect with services that stabilize and increase the quality of their lives, their independence, and their access to opportunity.

Live in Peace Inc.
Live In Peace’s mission is to empower youth and young adults in East Palo Alto to reclaim the vision for their future. They accomplish this through a highly relational model that connects young people to their talents, educational pathways, and economic opportunity. Their nonprofit bike shop is central to that mission: through their mechanic apprentice program, local youth train to become professional mechanics while providing the community with affordable, reliable bikes and repairs — expanding access to sustainable transportation for an underserved community where mobility is a barrier to work and education.
