CommuteStar 2025 Impact Report

Each year, Commute.org publishes the CommuteStar Impact Report to highlight how everyday commute choices contribute to measurable improvements across San Mateo County. In 2025, thousands of CommuteStar participants continued to choose sustainable ways to get to work—proving that small, daily decisions can add up to meaningful impact.

Thanks to the dedication of our CommuteStar members, we’ve achieved some impressive milestones together, as highlighted in the graphic below.

A 2025 Impact Report graphic for CommuteStar shows people carpooling, cycling, and working. It highlights 9,956 commuters, 1.8 million trips, CO2 and calories saved, plus a pie chart of commuting methods: carpool, transit, bike, and telework.

How We Commute: The CommuteStar Mode Split

Sustainable commuting looks different for everyone. In 2025, CommuteStar participants used a mix of options—including carpool, transit, telework, biking, walking, shuttle, and vanpool—to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips and support a more efficient transportation system.

This diversity of commute choices underscores the importance of flexible transportation options and the collective impact of individual actions.

Why it Matters

Choosing sustainable ways to commute delivers real benefits:

🌎 Cleaner air and lower emissions through reduced single-occupancy vehicle trips.

💰 Reduced Transportation Costs from lower fuel, parking, and vehicle maintenance expenses.

🔥 Health Benefits from active travel, including walking and biking as part of daily routines.
