Hop on Board: Celebrate TDM Week
Did you know that the transportation sector is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in San Mateo County and accounts for 40% of the total? Driving is factored in, but the good news is that we all have the power to make more sustainable choices1.
At Commute.org, we provide free resources that support greener commutes to your workplace. Our programs are designed to reduce drive-alone trips and promote sustainable commuting which are core goals of Transportation Demand Management (TDM). While employers can take key steps like installing bike racks or offering pre-tax benefits, our programs can extend this impact. Together, we can implement TDM strategies to improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and save money for both employers and commuters.
This year, we’re excited to celebrate TDM Week (September 15 – 19), a nationwide event highlighting the progress communities are making toward expanding sustainable transportation options. On Monday, September 15, our Executive Director, John Ford, will present at a workshop hosted by the Association for Commuter Transportation’s Northern California chapter. He’ll share strategies for building and sustaining impactful commute programs.
You can celebrate by encouraging your team’s participation in Commute.org programs. Our free shuttles, Guaranteed Ride Home program, incentives, and more foster sustainable commuting habits. Residents and workers in San Mateo County can log their sustainable trips on our CommuteStar platform to be rewarded, find carpool matches, and see their environmental impact.
We envision a future where cleaner, more sustainable transportation is the norm. Together, through employer involvement and community partnerships, we can make this vision a reality.
