Join the 2025 Commuter Challenge

An Easy Pledge. A Better Commute. A Chance to Win.

How do you get to work or college?
We invite you to consider a sustainable commute—one that helps reduce traffic congestion, supports a healthier environment, and benefits your overall well-being. Whether you walk, bike, take transit, carpool, vanpool, or work from home, your efforts make a difference.

Pledge to join the 2025 Commuter Challenge and you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win one of five grand prizes, including: an electric scooter, $250 Clipper Card, Bose headphones, a Kindle Colorsoft and the Ultimate Commuter Pack ($250 value).

Our hope is that this challenge encourages you to explore the sustainable options available to you—and maybe even discover a better commute.

Real People. Real Impact.

Last year, 1,846 people pledged to try a sustainable commute—and their actions made a real difference. From biking and transit to carpooling and working from home, each pledge was a step toward a healthier, more connected San Mateo County. But beyond the numbers, the stories behind those pledges are what truly inspire us.

Here’s what some of last year’s participants shared:

“A morning bike ride is better than coffee!”
“I want to make the commute as painless as possible, so I split the driving with co-workers!”
“To spare the air and my sanity!”
“I enjoy taking time to read, listen to media, and reflect while commuting, which is more enjoyable while using the above commute methods.”
“I want to leave a world that my kids and grandkids can enjoy without fear.”

Others found ways to turn their daily routine into something more meaningful:

“I love riding my bike and taking Caltrain. The morning ride to my office is a relaxing ride along the SF waterfront. I sometimes get off the train before my stop and ride an additional 10 miles along the Bay Trail. All lengths are beautiful, and I feel blessed not to have to use a car.”

Whether it was for cleaner air, less stress, personal wellness, or a shared ride with a coworker, each story is a reminder that small choices can lead to big change.

Join us this year and see what your commute can become.
